An Outer Coast Expedition that transitions between rugged north Island coastline, sweeping beaches of Cape Scott Provincial Park and the enchanting group of protected islands in God’s Pocket.

Located at the entrance to Queen Charlotte Strait, in the heart of Kwakwaka’wakw traditional territory, this cultural landscape is rich in marine mammals and wildlife.

Departing for Port Hardy, this trip is designed for a relaxed paced trip though God’s Pocket and along the Vancouver Island coastline, offering true adventure for those seeking a longer expedition style trip, with some time to explore the breadth and depth of all the space and places in between.

Kayaking

Gabriola Sea Kayaking Broken Islands
Gabriola Sea Kayaking Broken Islands

Unlike our other trips, experience is required and we insist that you know how to swim, have a good fitness level and a good sense of adventure.

All kayaking and safety equipment is provided, including dry bags. We’ll bring six to eight single kayaks, two or three doubles and take turns paddling the variety of boats – Necky Teslas, Current Designs Solstive GTs, Arluk IIIs, Arluk IVs and Nimbus Telkwas.

Our group size is ten, including guides.  Often size is smaller.

We paddle approximately 4-6 hours each day, leaving plenty of time for a hike in the woods, or just relaxing on the beach. Weather and sea conditions will ultimately determine our route.

Weather and sea conditions will ultimately determine our route. Weather can be temperamental often requiring rapid changes in plans at a moments notice, – please come expecting this.

Water taxi transport is at one end to maximizes the area we can cover.

For those interested in developing or improving their kayaking skills, our guides are always happy to provide paddling tips, practice rescues, or discuss the art of navigation.

Meals

Kayaking Dinner in the Broken Islands

We have found from past experience that the most economical, fun, and greatest variety of meals comes from when the food effort is shared (this also keeps our guides fresh!). Each person is responsible for the purchase and preparation of a share of group meals (typically two or three meals depending on group size).

We organize the meal schedule and can forward you some suggestions about what keeps and packs well if you wish.
